What is Babillard?

Babillard is a free website that brings together, in one place, Montréal student association events and housing (sublets, roommates) between verified students.

Who is it for? Which universities?

For the student community of Montréal universities: UdeM, Polytechnique, HEC, UQAM, McGill, Concordia and ÉTS, and for their student associations.

What about cégeps or other cities?

For now, Babillard is for Montréal universities only. Cégeps are not included during the pilot phase.

Is it free?

Yes. No fees for students or associations, no ads, and we don't sell any data.

Which languages is the site available in?

In French, English and Spanish. The FR / EN / ES button in the header changes the language. Content posted by associations (titles, descriptions) is not translated.

How can I contact you? Who is behind Babillard?

A small independent team in Montréal. Write to us at contact@notrebabillard.ca.

Do I need an account to see events?

Not for “Open to all” events. An account with a university email is needed for events limited to a university or an association, and to say “I'm going”.

Why can't I see some events?

Each association chooses who sees each of its events: everyone, a single university, or members only. Log in with your university email to see your university's events. Members-only events require being a member of the association.

How do I add events to my calendar (Google, Outlook, Apple)?

On an event, use the add-to-calendar button. To get everything automatically, open “My calendar” (/mon-calendrier): you'll find a secret link to paste into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. It contains the events you said “I'm going” to and those of the associations you follow. If the link leaked, “Change link” creates a new one.

How do I get notified when an association posts?

Follow the association from its page. You'll get a notification in the site's bell and, if you turn them on in “Notifications”, a push notification on your device. Babillard sends no emails to students. On iPhone, you must first add the site to your home screen to receive push notifications.

How do I save an event or a listing?

Tap “Save” on an event, a sublet or a roommate listing. Everything is in “Favourites” (/favoris), visible only to you.

How do I report inappropriate content?

Use the “Report” link on the event or listing. The Babillard team reviews the report and can hide the content; the association cannot show it again. For a copyright question about an image, write to contact@notrebabillard.ca with the link and your proof.

Can I see housing listings without an account?

Yes, listings can be read without an account, but without the poster's contact details. An account with a university email is needed to contact the poster, post, edit, save or report a listing.

What kinds of housing listings are there?

Three tabs: “Available” (sublets for a term and long-term rooms, with a duration filter), “Looking” (students looking for a place) and “Groups” (to rent together). The map shows a marker per neighbourhood with the number of listings; the “List” button shows everything.

How do I post a housing listing? Are there limits?

Log in, open Housing and tap “Post”. You can have at most 3 active listings. The exact address is never shown (only the neighbourhood), and your email isn't shown: you enter your own contact method. A listing leaves the list 45 days after the move-in date, or when you tap “Found it!”.

Is there a sublet notice template?

Yes: the “Sublet notice” tool (/logements/avis) generates the notice to print from your browser. Babillard stores nothing. The notice exists in French or English only. This isn't legal advice: if in doubt, contact the Tribunal administratif du logement or a lawyer.

How does an association post its events?

It creates an account with a university email, taps “Sign up my association” in the Association space (the association is linked to the university of the person signing it up), and after the Babillard team checks it (usually within 48 hours), posts events and chooses who can see them.

What roles exist in an association?

Member, editor and admin. Editors post events; admins also manage the team and the association's profile. Admins see members' names, never their email.

Can an event be posted or moved into the past?

No: an event can't be posted or moved into the past (with a 15-minute margin). Correcting an event that already happened is still allowed. A “Deadline” is a single moment, with no place or repeat.

How do I create an account? Can I use my Gmail?

You need a university email (from one of the accepted universities) and a password of at least 8 characters with a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a digit and a symbol. A personal Gmail isn't accepted. You can only link one email, chosen at signup.

I'm no longer studying, what happens to my account?

Your university email verification never expires: your account stays valid after you finish your studies.

I forgot my password

On the login page, use the forgot-password option: you'll get an email to choose a new one. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder or write to contact@notrebabillard.ca.

Is there two-factor authentication or passkeys?

Yes, both are optional, in “My account”: two-factor authentication with an authenticator app (6-digit code) and passkeys to log in without a password on your devices. A password always remains possible.

How do I delete my account and data?

In “My account”, you can delete your account yourself. For any question about your personal information, write to contact@notrebabillard.ca. Details are on the Privacy page.

What do you do with my data?

We don't sell any data, there are no ads, and we send no mass emails to students. Everything is explained on the Privacy page (/confidentialite).
